July 2021 Ratings – Updates
*A fighter is typically removed from our ratings, if she has been inactive from her weight class for 12 months, and still has no fight scheduled. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, few fights have been taking place, so extra allowances have been given.
Junior Flyweight
Yesica Bopp, #1 last month, has been inactive since June 2019, so exits the ratings. Enriquez, Tsunami, Estrada and Gomez each move up a place. IBF titlist, Evelin Bermudez, enters at #5, after her 9th round stoppage of Tamara DeMarco on July 4th.
Flyweight
Silva lost to #2 rated Esparza, however, the competitive nature of the bout (many impartial observers felt Silva won), means that Silva moves from #4 to #3 in our ratings, swapping places with Yudica.
Junior Bantamweight
Last month’s #4, Guanini, exits, having not fought at 115lbs since June 2019. Fernandez moves to #4. Following a period of inactivity, the experienced Yessica Chavez outpointed Jaqueline Munoz, and enters our ratings at #5.
Junior Featherweight
Bermudez, #1 last month, exits as she is currently pregnant – if and when she returns to the ring, her position in the rankings will be reconsidered. Rivas, Thorslund, Mercado and Nava each move up one place. Nazarena Romero, who made short work of Julieta Cardozo last December, enters at #5.
Junior Lightweight
Natasha Jonas, whose last fight was a competitive loss to Katie Taylor at lightweight, exits the ratings. Choi drops to #5. Delfine Persoon, who outpointed Elena Gradinar earlier this month (July 3rd), and who also has beaten Helen Joseph at 130lbs in 2019, enters at #4. Persoon is the only person to have defeated #1 rated Hamadouche – a feat she accomplished at lightweight back in 2015. Mikaela Mayer’s #3 position remains unchanged. Although Mayer outpointed the experienced Farias, the Argentinean had not fought at 130lbs in over 10 years, and was coming off back-to-back losses at 140lbs (to McCaskill in 2018 and 2019).
Junior Welterweight
Christina Linardatou exits the ratings (like Bermudez, she is pregnant, but if she returns in the near future her placement in the ratings will be reconsidered), meaning Reis and Bustos each move up a place. Kandi Wyatt, who pushed Reis to a close decision last November, enters at #5.
Pound-For-Pound:
Yesica Bopp, #6 last month, exits due to inactivity. Bermudez, #5 last month, exits as she is currently pregnant – if and when she returns to the ring, her position in the rankings will be reconsidered. Fujoka, McCarter, Braekhus and Persoon each move up two places. Maiva Hamadouche, who has won seven of her eight junior lightweight defences by KO, enters at #9, and Yulihan Luna Avila, who thoroughly dominated Mariana Juarez last year, enters at #10.
Our overall Pound-for-Pound top 10 is worked out by allocating points to each panellist’s top 10, and totalling the figures – so, 10 points for each panellist’s #1, 9 points for #2...1 point for #10.
